Dearest Vinyl Purchasers,
The Lightning EP & Jupiter EP Double Vinyl sets have been delayed for 3 more weeks. Here’s why:
It is VERY difficult to cut good vinyl. In the digital world you can simply drag & drop onto a CD or into MP3 conversion software. To make vinyl on the other hand, a highly skilled engineer must literally carve the analog sine wave into the lacquer master, which then must be plated and sent to the pressing plant. It takes DECADES to master that process. Engineers like our man Paul at saltmastering.com do it for a living and are true artisans.
As some of you already know, the Masters for Lightning & Jupiter exist in the DSD format. DSD rules, sounds as good if not better than analog, blah blah, but it’s also very difficult to cut lacquer from. In short, I have to move the largest part of our studio to Paul’s studio in order to accomplish this. In addition, because DSD is SO LOUD, Paul must build 4 channels of signal reduction padding from scratch.
“Why not take the easy way out & cut from hi-res digital conversions like FLAC?” you ask? After cutting several acetate test records of the 2 EP’s from 88.2KHz AIFF down sampled versions, Paul & I decided that wasn’t gonna “cut it”…Besides, we didn’t go through all the trouble of recording the record in full res DSD so you could spend extra money on a vinyl that was cut from a digital file…that would be bad.
BESIDES… Paul has also just received his one-of-a-kind, preview 1 inch tape machine. It’s the only one in the world designed specifically for cutting lacquers as it has 2 outputs, one that the cutting electronics can be “warned” with and another 800milliseconds later that actually gets cut. It’s all very complicated and even cooler than it sounds if you’re a nerd like me, but we JUST HAVE TO BE THE 1st to cut on this machine.
So…in summary, The Lightning EP will be the 1st vinyl record ever cut from a 1” Tape Reel & Jupiter will be the 1st vinyl record ever cut directly from DSD. Two firsts for the price of one.
“Why not both from tape….?” you ask?. Because Jupiter sounds TOO FUCKING FAT on 1 INCH tape. Yes, it’s true…it actually sounds TOO WARM. Lightning on the other hand, is just right on 1 INCH tape.
We will have them cut & manufacturing will begin the week of May 18. I’m sorry for the delay. It’s entirely fidelity related. I intend for you to have the very best we can provide and you will have it.
Thanks for your patience,
Wheatus are on my dash.

I’m pretty sure that 99.9% of you know the lyrics that are about to follow from Wheatus.
“Her name is Noelle, I have a dream about her, she rings my bell, I got gym class in half an hour. Oh how she rocks, in Keds and tube socks.. “
It is of course the infamous Teenage Dirtbag. This song…

Over the years Christopher Hitchens has spontaneously delivered many dozens of unforgettable lines: -
2. Every novelist of his acquaintance is riveted by Christopher, not just qua friend but also qua novelist. I considered the retort I am about to quote (all four words of it) so epiphanically devastating that I put it in a novel – indeed, I put Christopher in a novel. Mutatis mutandis (and it is the novel itself that dictates the changes), Christopher “is” Nicholas Shackleton in The Pregnant Widow – though it really does matter, in this case, what the meaning of “is” is… The year was 1981. We were in a tiny Italian restaurant in west London, where we would soon be joined by our future first wives. Two elegant young men in waisted suits were unignorably and interminably fussing with the staff about rearranging the tables, to accommodate the large party they expected. It was an intensely class-conscious era (because the class system was dying); Christopher and I were candidly lower-middle bohemian, and the two young men were raffishly minor-gentry (they had the air of those who await, with epic stoicism, the deaths of elderly relatives). At length, one of them approached our table, and sank smoothly to his haunches, seeming to pout out through the fine strands of his fringe. The crouch, the fringe, the pout: these had clearly enjoyed many successes in the matter of bending others to his will. After a flirtatious pause he said, “You’re going to hate us for this.”
And Christopher said, “We hate you already.”
Martin Amis hails the peerless intelligence and rhetorical ingenuity of his exceptional friend, Christopher Hitchens
This is my 1st ever tumblr. post. I am the singer/songwriter/guitarist & producer in my band wheatus. That’s real talk. I have read where it said that a song I wrote in 1996 called Teenage Dirtbag was mentioned here a lot…So here we go. For the record(s) we have 4 other records besides our 1st. They are all free downloads at our site http://wheatus.com and also here: http://www.wheatus.com/archived_downloads.html …Yes all free BUT…If you feel like supporting us you can blast down some money and donate…so it’s really just pick your own price & blam! 42 Downloadable songs…in multi-format MP3 & AIFF…oooh that reminds me…We are the 1st band to ever release a record for the Playstation 3…the format is called DSD_DISC. Most PS3 users don’t know that their console is capable of this modern analog marvel…that’s right, I used the A word. Seriously, DSD_DISC is indeed a true analog download…I know that sounds insanely nonsensical but it’s true. If you don’t believe me google DSD & read. Anyway…it sounds REALLY good. Like, infinitely better than CD or MP3…You should try it. Also, there’s a movie being made about us called wheatus, you might die. Check it here… http://www.indiegogo.com/WHEATUS-YOU-MIGHT-DIE-A-Feature-Documentary
You UK people should note that we are touring in your country this year…here’s ome tickets: http://bit.ly/UK_Tour
